São Jose do Rio Preto is a pleasant city in the country side of the State of São Paulo. It is located in the northwest of the state, being 442 km away from the city of São Paulo. The city is served with an airport with direct flights from São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

São Jose do Rio Preto is a city with the economy based on agriculture, cattle production, and industry. It has a high standard of living with many attractions such as the local pubs, and a beautiful walking trail around the dam with the view of the largest rodent in the world, the Capivaras.

São Jose do Rio Preto has also many cultural traditions such as the  important research university (UNESP), and a high standard in medicine and public health (FAMERP and HB hospital). It was also the home of the important Brazilian naif painter José Antonio da Silva. His art work is exposed in the "Museu de Arte Primitivista José Antonio da Silva".

São José do Rio Preto has a tropical weather. It is warm and humid in the summer. The average temperature in January  is  27 °C, typically varying from 22 to 33 °C. In hot days, it can get to 40 °C.
